Zongo II Hydropower Station in DRC

    The Zongo II Hydropower Station in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is located in the Bas-Congo Province, which is a low dam diversion hydropower station. The project is 180 km away from the highway in Kinshasa, the capital, and 285 km away from the port city of Matadi.

    The dam site of Zongo II Hydropower Station has a control drainage area of 14600km2, a design head of 105.0m, a diversion flow of 160.5m3/s, three installed units, a single unit capacity of 50MW, a total installed capacity of 150MW, and an average annual generating capacity of about 860 million kW.h. The main buildings of the project include the head hydroproject buildings (including barrage, flood discharge and sand sluicing gate, water intake of power station, etc.), headrace tunnel, surge shaft, penstock, power house of hydropower station and switch station, etc., of which the maximum dam height of dam is 28.5m and the dam crest length is about 220m.

    The electric energy produced by Zongo II Hydropower Station will be transmitted to Kinsuka Substation in Kinshasa with a distance of 70km through 220kV single tower double circuit overhead line, and connected to the power grid in the west of Congo (DRC).
